On Rights

  • Self-direction of States vs Federal Government

The federal government is good only at forcing solutions that
work well in one particular locale onto every conceivable subsidiary.
What works well for — say — New York City, might not be
appropriate for Willow, Alaska. More to the point: gun laws for inner
cities shouldn’t mean a damn to the last frontier state who has to
contend not only with their fellow man, but even more so to bears,
Moose, and so on. This same principle applies to EVERY federal law.
The only reason that the Greek city states every allied up under the
rule of one federal entity was during the Persian invasion, because
the Greeks were undoubtedly aware of this flaw of “Big Government.”
That, or maybe they had the gumption to say to themselves and others:
We know what’s best for us, not some faceless and at times menacing
regime that would tyranically rule over the many. For example: does
an ex-lawyer from a major city down South know what’s best for rural
Alaskans? Has s/he ever even been up here? Heck no. Yet s/he
contends to be able to represent its tributaries.. err, constituence
better than those very same constituents who could otherwise be
striving to live the American dream of /Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit
Of Happiness. The prussian philosopher Immanual Kant was right in
saying “be your own expert.” Translated to modern terms: Be your own
example.

It’s bad enough that we, as individuals, have to think and act in terms
of States. The Individual is the last remaining minority in America.
Point in case: Pigovean Taxation. If you’re a cultist/religious-fanatic
and you don’t want to drink after a certain time of day||night, that’s
your perogitave. Don’t make it illegal to buy alcohol or anything else
for that matter during certain hours. I’m sorry if you don’t have the
willpower to abstain according to your own World View, but don’t make
it a crime for not just you, but EVERYONE, to buy alcohol or what have
you at certain times (or at all, in the case of the villages up North).
Don’t legislate your niche morality on others. You just show your
lack of flexibility and tolerance in so doing. Which brings us to the
next portion:

  • Conspiracy of normality

Society has a crushing flaw. It’s called the law of normality, whereby
other people attempt to declaw and defang their neighbors from doing
anything that isn’t considered “normal.” The individual attempting to
live life by his or her own merits is constantly attacked when they act
out of the norm. This means that cultural expression and growth is
retarded. This is one of the reason we have artists. They blend the
line between culturaly accepted and “out there”/avant-guarde mannerisms.
This allows a controllable, via herd mentality, evolution of permissible
actions and beliefs to occur, but it is nowhere near enough in efficacy
to allow as many freedoms as possible for the impacted individual.
The clever, discerning intellectual has the tennable sanction under the
so-called poetic-license to express, or even just BE, him or herself,
but there is a sort of Tragedy of the Commons associated with it.
Vizelidet: if too many intellectuals use poetic license they’ll be still
be seen as a kook. True individualists (read: Friedrich Nietzsche) who
live by their own philosophy used to be thrown into insane asylums, now
they’re just medicated until they no longer have the capacity for cogent
thought and are therefore marginalized. The crazies of yesterday are
made into hollywood idols to “entertain”/innoculate the pleebs of today.
Would that the masses showed this sort of attitude to the true
Individualists of the present. Original thought and action are
considered humor or are demonized in other ways.

The solution is simple: allow for the emancipation of the individual
who wants to break away from the herd.

  • cultural subjugation

This was done, one could argue, for the Amish of Pennsyvlania. What
one doesn’t see paraded along with the stigma (the Amish are constantly
being condescended to) is that the Amish still have to pay taxes to
the mother/federal body. This is used to subjugate said Amish to the
“common culture” of America, as they still have to pay their land taxes.
In turn, their commodities are under-valued, because the American-at-
large government has enough volume (in terms of labor and factories)
to bring about a “better” product (say: ikea, other manufactories)
which brings the Amish into an ever dwindling economic niche. Soon,
it will be untennable to live according to one’s own culture on
American soil. That’s sad enough as it is, but then we add to their
predicament that they still have to abide by Federal laws and statutes.
Nobody is excempt from the meddling of populist leaders and their agendas.

Furthermore, look at President Roosevelt idea of immigration:

In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes
here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us,
he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is
an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or
birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the person s
becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an American
There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an
American, but something else also, isn t an American at all. We have
room for but one flag, the American flag We have room for but one
language here, and that is the English language and we have room
for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people.
-Theodore Roosevelt 1907

He worded this lovely quote as to the effect of “When in America,
do/live as the Americans do.” What Americans? The ones we
obliterated and marginalized as we fullfilled our “Manifest Destiny.”
No, America contends to its own citizens, as well as everyone else,
that it is the land of Opportunity. Opportunity for what? Being
like every other anonymous coward that hides in the herd? No, you
don’t see that on the brochure. The rule of the land is do as others
do, just like my homeland of East-Bloc Germany: which coincidently
wasn’t communist but rather DDR stood for German Democratic Republic,
which is EXACTLY what we have here. While growing up someone actually
had the gall to tell me that the highest blade of grass gets cut first.
How is this any different from the so-called Communist Eastern-Bloc?
Hint: it isn’t. The only difference is how the Social Engineers do
their dirty work of nullifying potential “threats”/individualists.
The Stasi made everyone an informer with their whole “turn your
parents in if they aren’t exactly like everyone else” propaganda and
modus operandi, whereas here in America they correlate goods purchased,
things searched, emails sent and received, to the point where Orwellian
themes don’t even begin to scratch the surface. No, we need a new
paradigm. “Power to the people” sounds great, until you realize that
other people immediately form cliques against their individualist
neighbors as soon as humanly possible.

Why don’t we just move to a more accomodating nation? Because in
reality there are none, and because I’ve invested in this nation
of opportunity as a Combat Medic for Eight years. Either live up to
the brochure or don’t insult our intelligence by lying to us.

  • How does this affect you?

This nation was founded on the rights of Individuals. The freedom to
speak (not to mention think) freely, to report to others, to conggregate
in groups, et alia are all granted by the founding documents that
is supposed to shape life of our country. This neccesitates that we, as
Americans, started out as Individualists. Personal freedoms in groups
is problematic, but not so much so that my very writing this needs to be
censored, which it was since I started writing it. People don’t realize
that they could use this platform — that of Individualistic Rights —
to further their own agenda. Something to the tune of “don’t try to
change me and I’ll extend you the same courtesy” comes to mind readily
enough. Before you condemn something because it’s retro or new, try
to think how you yourself could stand to benefit; And really, who doesn’t
want to be him- or herself despite what others might not condone otherwise?
Do not let your social milieu define you as a person. Never forget,
you only have the rights you defend.
